Former midfielder Roy Keane has slammed England’s players for playing for themselves in the second half of their 2-0 Nations League win over Ireland.
The Three Lions made an impressive start to their campaign, scoring three points through first-half goals from Declan Rice and Jack Grealish, who were jeered by the home fans due to their previous appearances for Ireland at youth level.
However, in the second half, England play without emphasis and play with too much rhythm, which Keane criticise the visiting team’s players for being self-interest.
“The disappointment for England today was Ireland came out strong,” Keane told ITV. “England dominated the first half. We were very impress with their decision-making, their quality and the movement of their players.”
“But in the second half, it was the opposite. I thought they were very bad in the second half. The players played for themselves, played too many shots, tried to make top-class passes.”
“Just keep playing like you’ve always done and deal with Ireland. But Ireland played with a lot of pride in the second half. Even though England played well in the first half, I thought they were poor in the second half. The players played for themselves.”
“Even the substitutions… the players slowly walk off ยูฟ่าเบท. It shows a little bit of arrogance. If you have a team that is ready to take on you, especially the offensive players, when you are on the pitch, you think, ‘I have a chance to score!'”
Keane’s outburst came after he had strongly criticised the Football Association of Ireland (FAI) during the half-time break.
Despite Keane’s comments, Carsley was please with his team’s performance and will look to build on it when they next face Finland at Wembley on Tuesday in another Nations League match.
